Residents of Bukonde Town Council in Northern City Division in Mbale City have reconstructed a temporary bridge connecting Bukonde Town council in Mbale city to Sironko district.

The bridge was destroyed in July 2022 after heavy rains that pounded the area left property destroyed.

The bridge is situated in Namwani and Namukhondo cells in Bulweta ward, Webuta cell in Bumuyaga ward and Makosi cell in Nanyunza ward.

The residents who spent two days fixing the broken bridge, applauded their team leader Bursar Walumoli Ismail who offered the trees that were used to construct the bridge. Walumoli says they embarked on the construction of the bridge in order to ease accessibility and save lives.

Amidu Muyoga, the LCI chairman for Makosi cell says despite notifying the Mbale City authorities about the matter they have received no feedback. Amidu says the pathetic state of the bridge has caused numerous accidents.

Maberi Muhamad, Kabala Aramanthan, and Umar Nabende all residents of the area welcomed the community initiative saying it will ease the transportation of goods to markets.
