Police in Mbale district are holding a 27-year-old
man on allegations of defiling a 5-year-old girl.
The suspect identified
as James Namakhanyu a resident of Rongoro village, Bunashimolo parish, Bukiende
Sub County reportedly lured the victim with sweets.
Rogers Taitika the
Elgon Region Police Spokesperson says Namakhanyu reportedly found the
five-year-old girl playing with her four-year-old brother at home. According to
Taitika, the suspect took advantage of the parents being away attending to a
patient in hospital. He then reportedly asked the victim to follow her so as to
get sweets at his place.
Taitika says
Namakhanyu used this trick to defile the minor. The girl later told neighbors
about the incident and this culminated into the suspects arrest.
He says the suspect is
being subjected to medical examination while the minor is receiving treatment.
