January Heavy rain destroy homes and crops in Namisindwa District.

Heavy rains have destroyed several homes and crop gardens in eight villages of Bukhabusi and Buwatuwa sub counties Namisindwa district leaving over 400 residents homeless.


The rains that ponded the district on Thursday lasted for about four hours affecting homesteads in the villages of Nazele, Sibanga, Bukhabusi, Bumulani, Mabuku, Sinzi, Bukhatola, and Kumutundi. Gardens of Bananas, coffee, and beans among others were affected.

Rober Wesanza, the LC1 chairperson of Nazele, one of the affected villages says most of the houses’ roofs were blown off by heavy winds and others collapsed while all the crop gardens were completely washed away.

Ezra Magombe, an affected resident of Sinzi Village is asking for Government to intervene since they are currently left with nothing. He has appealed to government to support the affected residents with food and shelter.

David Mutenga the LC111 Chairperson of Bukhabusi Sub County has confirmed the incident and says he has already notified the district authorities.
