Budadiri East Member of Parliament (Sironko) Isaiah Sasaga says that if the Karamoja iron sheets saga finds several government officials culpable, punitive action should be taken against them.
Several ministers including that of Karamoja Dr. Mary Gorret Kitutu are being investigated for diverting iron sheets meant for delivery to the Karamojong community. Ministers Rebecca Kadaga, Matia Kassaija, and Amos Lugoloobi admitted to receiving the iron sheets.
Now MP Sasaga says it is unfortunate that officials meant to be exemplary are embroiled in a saga that puts their positions in disrepute. According to Sasaga, despite one of the ministers that hails from Bugisu being implicated, anyone found culpable should account for their actions.
Members of Parliament (MPs) from Karamoja Sub-region recently started the process to censure the Minister Mary Goretti Kitutu, over allegations of diversion of relief items meant for the vulnerable communities.
Parliament in 2021 passed a Shs39 billion supplementary budget to procure 100,000 iron sheets for disarmed youth and the vulnerable in the sub-region, but these have reportedly not been delivered to date.
