One of Mbale District top performers in the 2023 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education examinations will pursue a degree in mechanical engineering at Makerere University on government sponsorship.
Derick Maswere scored 20 points after studying Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (PCM) at Nyondo Secondary School.
Speaking at a function to recognize Maswere for his stellar performance, Dismas Wandulu the Nyondo Secondary School Head teacher highlighted discipline and hard work as the reasons he had excelled.
Maswere’s father, Paul Nasimolo, a charcoal burner, applauded the government for the scholarship saying he could not afford paying tuition for his son at Makerere University.
Peter Buyela, the Nyondo Secondary School Parents, Teachers Association (PTA) Chairperson handed 500,000 shillings to Maswere as upkeep in his University academic journey. Buyela said recognition of top performing students will motivate others to work harder.
