Karamoja Minister Dr. Mary Gorrete Kitutu calls for a speedy resettlement plan for people living in Bugisu disaster prone areas

Karamoja Minister Dr. Mary Gorrete Kitutu has called for a speedy resettlement plan for people living in disaster prone areas in Bugisu Sub Region.


Kitutu made the remarks at Busulwa Primary School in Tsekululu Sub County in Namisindwa District the belated Women’s Day Celebrations.

In August last year, Give Direct, a non-government organization launched a resettlement plan where over 30 billion shillings targeting 4,000 families in disaster prone areas in the Districts of Namisindwa,Sironko, Bududa and Manafwa are to be given.

According to Kitutu, going by the Uganda Meteorological Authority, in June this year, the rains will intensify. She says this will put the lives of the people in disaster prone areas at risk if they do not move to safer areas.

John Musila the Bubulo East legislator in Namisindwa District says that about 500 families were targeted by Give Direct but to-date no one has received money.

John Kisaka a resident of Bubale cell in Bumbo town council in Namisindwa district is one of the people lined up for the resettlement package. Kisaka says cracks have already developed on his house and now living under fear of landslides. He says that he is willing to relocate to a safer area once he is compensated.
