Harriet Kakai the Mbale City Deputy Mayor has announced that she will vie for the Mbale City Woman Parliamentary position in the 2026 general elections.

According to Kakai, she has been a deputy mayor from the time Mbale was still under a Municipality and now is the time to represent the City in the Ugandan Parliament. Kakai says that she has accumulated a wealth of experience on issues affecting the people of Mbale City and will ably present them in the August house once given the mandate.

Kakai, a member of the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party says that she will represent the people of Mbale City regardless of political affiliation. She says that despite being an opposition member, she has backed many government projects in Mbale City.

Kakai is expected to take on NRMs Lydia Wanyoto Mutende and Ritah Namuwenge for the Mbale City Woman Parliamentary position.  It is not clear if Connie Nakayenze Galiwango the Mbale City Woman MP will seek another term in 2026.
