The office of Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner (RDC) has suspended the construction of the main gate at Bumwoni Health Centre III in Bumwoni Sub County pending further investigation.

Last week, three people, namely Robert Kalura, Joseph Khisa, and Robert Fund, who were working at the construction site, sustained serious injuries when the gate they were constructing collapsed.

Robert Mukelule, the acting Namisindwa District engineer blamed the disaster on poor workmanship and the use of inadequate cement, smaller reinforcement bars, and poorly mixed concrete.

Solome Juliet Namara, the Namisindwa Deputy Resident District Commissioner has since halted the construction works to allow for thorough investigations into the cause of the gate collapse. She also says that they want to examine how Fred Khaukha, the individual in charge of Bumwoni Health Centre III, was awarded the contract for the construction of the gate in violation of regulations prohibiting civil servants from obtaining tenders.

Michael Khaukha, the Chairperson of Bumwoni Sub County, has welcomed the decision to suspend the construction, saying that there is a need to rectify the problem and ensure that quality work is carried out at the site. He revealed that the sub-county received Shillings 30 million in results-based funds (RPF) from the Ministry of Health specifically for the construction of the gate
