Beneficiaries of the government’s parish development model (PDM) in Sironko District are concerned with the delay in accessing the funds despite being officially launched last month.

The official PDM launch and distribution of the funds was held at Buhugu Sub County with some beneficiaries getting the funds.

Alex Magolu the LC1 chairperson for Bujiwumi cell says all beneficiaries in Budadiri town council and neighbouring sub counties are yet to open accounts as mandated and subsequently receive the programme funds.

Hamza Magombe and Besi Gimono from Budadiri town council say they applied for the PDM funds in order to buy seeds for planting. The two say repayment may become a challenge since the planting season is getting to a close.

Francis Maniaku the LCIII Chairperson for Budadiri town council says PDM is wasting people’s time and retarding development. Maniaku has issued a one month ultimatum for authorities to open accounts and deposit money for the beneficiaries. He has threatened to lead a peaceful demonstration to Sironko District Local Government offices over the delay in accessing PDM funds.

But Sironko district PDM focal person Patrick Okori has called for calm saying the delay was caused by Post Bank in the process of opening accounts for the beneficiaries.
