Opposition Chief Whip John Baptist Nambeshe has questioned government’s determination to fight wasteful expenditure in the wake of the world bank’s decision to suspend financial support and the effect of covid 19 and the Russia- Ukraine war on the Ugandan economy.

It is said that government sent more than 70 people to the 78th United Nation General Assembly in New York. Two teams, one led by the Vice President Jessica Alupo and another by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja were in USA for the UN meeting.

Now Nambeshe says having such a huge team to represent the country has negative effect on the country’s coffers because every team member must be facilitated for his travel and stay in the USA.

Nambeshe says that despite government pledging to cut expenditure on travel abroad, the vice has continued and this has left the country bleeding economically. He says that as opposition members of Parliament, they will come out strong on the issue of wasteful expenditure.
