Kumi Resident District Commissioner Ahamada Washaki wants local leaders to support and embrace community self-help projects in their areas.

Washaki sounded the call over the weekend at an exhibition of the Mt. Elgon Nook Hub, a project under Mt. Elgon Self Help Project. The exhibition was held in Bungokho Sub County in Mbale District. According to Washaki, it is the responsibility of both elected and appointed leaders to serve their communities by supporting community projects that can spur development.

Emma Bwayo, the Namisindwa District Youth Councilor, who was the guest speaker at the event, asked local leaders to oversee community projects for their success. Bwayo said that many projects have stalled as a result of lacking support from leaders.

Caleb Wakhungu, the Country Director Mt. Elgon NOOK Hub, said the exhibition featured products from various skills developed at the hub. Wakhungu said the products included shoes, eco-friendly stoves and briquettes and clothing fashions.
