Authorities at Namisindwa District Local Government have only recovered 10 million shillings out of 700 million shillings which was disbursed to 80 groups under government’s youth livelihood programme.
Jackson Wakweika the Namisindwa LCV chairperson revealed this in his state of the District address.
Andrew Wabweni the Namisindwa district community development officer says the money was a revolving fund but most beneficiaries who opted not to pay back the money shifted to neighboring Kenya for fear of being arrested.
But Emma Bwayo and Moses Waburoko the Namisindwa District Youth Councilor and Councilor representing Tsekululu Sub County respectively attribute the poor recovery to extortion by some technical officers at the time of disbursing the funds to the youth groups.
