Parents at St. John’s Magale Secondary School in Magale Town Council, Namisindwa District want the head teacher Joseph Makwa transferred.

The parents accuse Makwa of increasing the school fees despite the parents opposing the plan. Abbey Makutusi one of the parents says that in December last year, at the school’s annual general meeting, Makwa proposed that fees for day students be increased from 130,000 shillings to 150,000 shillings while those for boarding be increased from 152,000 shillings to 300,000 shillings per term.

Makutusi says parents rejected the proposal but were surprised that the increment was captured in the end of third term circular. He also accuses Makwa of asking for a bag of cement and a broom from every student despite the school being a government aided school.

Sophie Kuloba the acting Namisindwa education officer has dismissed the allegations saying the school board sat and resolved not increase the school fees.

Joseph Makwa says the decision by the school board was to be communicated to all parents at the opening of first term.
