Mbale City has officially closed the Mbale City Health
Center II to the public, transforming it into an Ebola treatment center.
This decision
follows the confirmation of an Ebola case in Mbale City last week by the
Ministry of Health.
Mbale Regional Refferal Hospital registered one confirmed case, which was
transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital but later died. The burial
took place at Namunsi, Northern City Division, in Mbale City on Friday last
week.
Moses Mugonyi, the Mbale City Health Officer, revealed that a second suspected
case had been identified. He explained that they had dispatched the
samples from the suspect to Entebbe for analysis.
Mugonyi urged the public to avoid handshakes, physical contact, and being in
closed spaces to help prevent the spread of the disease. Ebola hemorrhagic
fever, is a viral hemorrhagic fever that affects humans and primates, caused by
ebolaviruses. Symptoms typically appear within two to three weeks after
infection and include fever, sore throat, muscle pain, and headaches.
