Police in Pallisa are investigating
circumstances under which a football fan was killed.
The fan has been identified as Stanley Okiring aged 19 and a
resident of Oukot village, Odwalat parish in Pallisa District.
He was reportedly murdered by someone from another team following
a misunderstanding. It is alleged that Okiring went to watch a football match
between Onyara young stars and Ngarwe football club.
Crowd violence between supporters of the two teams erupted
after Onyara young stars reportedly scored a goal that should have been
cancelled for offside. In the ensuing scuffle, Okiring, a supporter of Onyara
was hit with a stone and later succumbed as a result of over bleeding.
Immaculate Alaso the Bukedi North Police Spokesperson has
condemned the acts of violence in football saying the culprits will be
identified, arrested and prosecuted.
