Heavy rains have left residents of
Bugobero Sub County in Manafwa District counting loses with crops and their
homes destroyed.
The rains
coupled with strong hailstorms destroyed banana, maize, beans, millet, cassava
and sweet potato gardens. The most affected villages are Buwebele, Bumululu, Buwafutu,
Bunabiro and Khanzosi in Bumasokho and Buwakoro parishes.
Jane Kitale
a resident of Bunabiro village says she lost all her crops to the rains. Oliver
Mukite another resident says the rains left all her property destroyed and now
struggling to sustain her family. Mukite is calling for government support.
Fred Matetekeyi,
a resident of Buwebele village says he almost lost his life after the strong
wind carried his house. Matendekeyi with his five children is now taking
shelter at a neighbor’s home.
Wilson Maremu Wakhasaka the LCIII Chairperson for Bugobero Sub County says a report about the extent of the damage has been submitted to the Manafwa District authorities for support towards the affected residents.
